Industrial Accidents

Plant, refinery, and industrial-site injuries and the duties owed to workers.

An industrial accident is a sudden, unplanned event at a worksite that causes physical injury, death, or property damage. The key word is sudden. Something happens in a discrete moment: a machine catches a hand, a load falls, a vessel ruptures, a worker drops from a platform.

This section covers injuries at plants, refineries and other industrial sites: chemical releases and explosions, the everyday hazards of plant work, heat and exposure injuries, and a worker’s rights after reporting a safety problem. Oilfield and offshore work each have their own sections, and the workers’ compensation section covers the benefits side of an on-the-job injury.
